I suppose on the other side of the pond you can find something similar to a product here called Thiofer - it's an organic mix that increases the plant's tolerance to the cold. You need to spray it on the trees a day or two before the incoming cold weather, and it gets metabolized by the plant in three-four days (so if the cold is persistant, spray again). It helped me to minimize the damage in my young orchards two winters ago (it did really work).
